Prevent Payments via Fake QR Codes
24 December 2024In recent years, criminals have started using QR codes as a new method of scamming people. They place fake QR codes that lead to counterfeit websites, initiating transactions or stealing personal data and even accessing bank accounts. Unfortunately, this type of fraud is becoming more common, especially in public places like charging stations and parking meters.
These incidents highlight the importance of a secure payment system. Parkers can be informed about this potential risk. For example, the Municipality of Amsterdam addresses this by adding a note in the User Interface. Through the touchscreen, the municipality clearly states that payments are only processed via the secure interface and payment terminals, without QR codes.
