Taxameter Centrale Celebrates 95 Years

20 December 2024

In 1927, Mr. Staartjes began a bicycle storage facility on Kerkstraat in Amsterdam. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he soon shifted his focus to motorized traffic, specializing in the sale and repair of tachographs—referred to as "taxameters"—instruments that automatically record the distance traveled.

Parking: The Beginning of a Legacy

The product range of the tachograph supplier expanded over time. New items were introduced, including money and fuel counters for gas pumps. Parking meters also entered the market. With space in the Netherlands being scarce—then as now—regulation was essential, and parking meters and ticket machines provided an ideal solution.

This marked the beginning of the market in which TMC is active today: the world of Parking.

The Current Era

We are now in the era of the Internet of Things (IoT), a new world where (parking) systems are interconnected, and data serves as the foundation. As a result, TMC has evolved beyond offering just hardware to include data systems, reporting capabilities, and comprehensive services.

Our role has transformed as well—we are now recognized as a collaborative partner, rather than merely a supplier.

Looking Ahead to the Next Milestone

We are incredibly proud to have reached this milestone and eagerly look forward to our next lustrum, when we will celebrate 100 years of Taxameter Centrale.

Here’s to the future—thank you for being part of our journey!
